PRINCETON, N.J. - Sophomore Ryan Rich (Yorktown, Va.) took a lead pass from junior Marty Shaw (Laurel, Md.) and connected for Princeton's lone goal of Friday's 1-1 tie against Brown. The goal gave Princeton a lead it would hold for slightly more than 10 minutes, but Brown senior Evan Ryan headed in a crossing pass from Dustin Branan later to even the score. Princeton had the best chance in overtime, but neither team could manage the game winner.
Both teams carried play throughout different times of the game, but Princeton had the closer opportunities. Brown goalkeeper Christopher Gomez made 10 saves, many on difficult shots, to keep the Bears in the game early.
After a scoreless first half, Rich connected at the 54:42 mark by staying onsides off a lead pass from Shaw. Beating the defense, Rich needed only to beat the onrushing Gomez, which he did with a hard pass to the left side of the goal. It was his second goal of the season.
Brown evened the score at the 65:53 mark, when Branan took a crossing pass and headed it back to the other side of the goal. Ryan beat his man and knocked the header into the right side of the goal.
Princeton (2-6-4) continues its Ivy League schedule next Saturday when it battles Harvard at 4 p.m. at Lourie-Love Field.
