Men's Tennis Defeats Rutgers 4-0 to open ECAC Championships

Forest Hills, N.Y. - The No. 4 seeded Princeton men's tennis team defeated the No. 13 seed, Rutgers 4-0 in the opening round of the ECAC Championships. Princeton will face the winner of Army/Cornell, tomorrow in the second round. The four day event is being held at the USTA National Tennis Center, home of the U.S. Open and will run until October 7.
The Tigers won two of three doubles points to win the point and won three straight singles matches to capture the 4-0 victory. Playing in the No. 1 singles match, Trevor Smith defeated Rutgers' Greg Schweitzer 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. Josh Burman defeated Kevin Bielen 7-5, 6-2.
The tournament will showcase 16 teams from around the entire East region. This year's field includes all the Ivies and Boston College, Colgate, Penn State, St. Bonaventure, Army, Navy, Rutgers and Virginia Tech. The tournament will follow the format of six singles and three doubles draws with a consolation bracket.
