Princeton, N.J. - Senior co-captains Maureen Lane and Allison Cahill led the way for Princeton in its exhibition game with the Houston Jaguars on Saturday afternoon at Jadwin Gymnasium. Both captains finished with double-digit point totals, but it was Houston's Rasheeda Clark who led all scorers en route to a 79-62 Jaguar win.
Clark posted 23 points and picked up four steals to lead a Houston team that shot 51.5 percent from the field. Taiwo Rafiu and Angela Zampella each scored 10 points for a Jaguar team that concludes its traveling schedule tomorrow evening at West Virginia.
Houston defeated the defending national champion Connecticut Huskies by a 79-73 margin on Wednesday night, handing UConn it's first loss in more than a year. In today's contest, the Jaguars jumped out to a 15-point lead before Princeton came back with Cahill catching fire from beyond the three-point arc. The Tigers were able to claw their way back into the game and trailed 34-23 at the half.
Cahill and Lane each finished with four three-point baskets and the Tigers hit 11 triples as a team. Lane led Princeton's scorers with 16 points, Cahill finished with 13. Kelly Schaeffer added nine points and freshman Katy O'Brien led the team with six assists.
The Tigers open the season next Friday at the Women's Sports Foundation Tournament in Waco, Texas. Princeton will face host Baylor at 9 p.m. EST. Baylor finished 27-6 last season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for only the second time in program history.
