Baylor Bounces Princeton In Season Opener

Waco, Texas - Sophomore Karen Bolster highlighted Princeton's offensive attack with 17 points in the Tigers season opening loss to Baylor. Bolster hit 3-of-5 three-point field goals, but it wasn't nearly enough as the Bears downed the Tigers 86-47 in Waco, Texas on Friday night.
Princeton found itself down early, falling behind 10-1 in the games' first five minutes. The Tigers battled back and with Allison Cahill's three-pointer at the 10-minute mark, Princeton took a 14-13 lead. Jessica Aitken connected on 1-of-2 free-throw attempts and the Tigers upped that lead to 15-13.
Jordan Davis put the Bears back on top with a three-point basket and Baylor never looked back. The Bears would extend the lead to 35-27 at the half with 10 points off turnovers and six second-chance points to build an eight-point cushion. The Tigers made 5-of-19 three-point shots; three of which came from Bolster while the other two came from Cahill, who finished with eight points. Kelly Schaeffer chipped in with six points as Eileen Powers pulled down a team-high seven boards while scoring three points for the Tigers.
Baylor was able to fast break on the Tigers, outscoring them 8-0 in that category and posting 24 points off turnovers. Five Bears scored in double figures with Steffanie Blackmon leading the charge. Blackmon scored 17 points and registered 10 rebounds to open the year with a double-double.
The Bears advance to the championship game of their Women's Sports Foundation Tournament and play Alcorn State, which defeated Southwest Texas in the first game of the evening at the Ferrell Center. Princeton will face the Bobcats, who are also 0-1, in the consolation game at 8 p.m. Eastern.
