Princeton, N.J. - Senior Maureen Lane paced the Tigers with 17 points as Princeton downed Tennessee-Martin 92-74 in the women's basketball home opener on Wednesday night. Lane led four Tiger scorers in double figures and Princeton connected on 56 percent of its shots, including 52 percent from three-point range, to improve to 2-1 on the year.
Princeton finished the game with 12 three-point baskets, including four from sophomore Karen Bolster, who finished with 14 points on the night. The Tigers' defense stymied Tennessee-Martin from the start, causing the Skyhawks to go 0-for-8 from three-point range in the first half. Princeton jumped out to a 43-24 halftime lead and maintained a comfortable margin throughout.
Junior Kelly Schaeffer tallied 16 points and five rebounds, senior Allison Cahill chipped in with 11 points. Eleven different Tigers reached the scoring column to give Princeton the most points it had ever scored in a 40-minute game. Ninety-two points is the second most in program history. The Tigers scored 97 points in a 97-92 triple overtime victory over Brown in 1987.
The Tigers have now won two straight and improve to 2-1 overall, dropping Tennessee-Martin to 0-1. Princeton heads to California this weekend for a pair of games in the Stanford Invitational. The Tigers play host Stanford in game one of that tournament. Game time is 11 p.m. Eastern.
