PRINCETON, N.J. - Junior defensive end Joe Weiss made plenty of plays during last Saturday's 32-25 comeback win over Cornell. The stats show that. It was one play that didn't appear on any stat sheet that helped Joe Weiss earn his first Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week award.
With less than 20 seconds remaining in regulation, Cornell's Mick Razzano attempted a pass to get the Big Red into better field goal range for the potential game winner. The pass was tipped at the line of scrimmage by Weiss and intercepted by Jay McCareins. Princeton would force overtime and win it then.
Weiss is the third Princeton player to be named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week. McCareins and Blake Perry have also earned this award.
Weiss, who has been among the league leaders in sacks and tackles for loss all season, led the Tigers with 12 tackles in the win. He sacked Razzano twice and defensed another pass before his game-saving tip.
Weiss and Princeton will look to take a major step in the Ivy League race when the Tigers play host to Penn at 1 p.m.
