Second-Half Surge Pushes Tigers Past Hofstra

Princeton, N.J. - Senior co-captains Allison Cahill and Maureen Lane knocked down four three-point baskets apiece and four Tigers notched double figures in Princeton's 89-71 win over Hofstra on Wednesday night at Jadwin Gym.
The Tigers found themselves down 37-31 after a cold-shooting first half in which Princeton shot 37 percent and made 2-of-13 three-point attempts. Princeton caught fire in the second period, knocking down 9-of-12 threes and making 57 percent of all its shots. Lane hit all three of her three-point attempts and Cahill hit all four of her second-half three-point shots as a six-point halftime deficit quickly evaporated for the Pride.
Junior Kelly Schaeffer registered a team-high 23 points, Cahill finished with 20. Lane ended the game with 16 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Lane also led the Tigers with five assists and had two steals on the night. Freshman Rebecca Brown also scored 16 points for the Tigers. Hofstra also had four players in double figures with Jen Brickey's 21 points the team high. Tifini Rodgers score 13, Staceyann Claxton scored 12 and Amaku Agugua added 10 points in a losing effort.
Princeton's 58 second-half points is one point shy of the team record of 59 points in one half. The Tigers scored 59 points in the first half of their game vs. Niagara on Dec. 4, 1992. After four games at Jadwin Gym this season, the Tigers are averaging 84.75 points per home game.
The Tigers are now 4-4 overall and Hofstra dips to 3-4 with the loss. Princeton will next travel to Denver, Colo. for the Pioneer Classic next Friday-Saturday, Dec. 20-21.
