Box Score
Massachusetts defenseman Thomas Pock scored at 2:37 of overtime to lift the Minutemen to a 4-3 overtime with Tuesday night in front of 1,339 fans at Baker Rink. In the game, Princeton rallied from deficits of 2-0 and 3-2, but eventually fell in overtime. Chris Owen, Seamus Young and Mike Patton scored the Tiger goals.
UMass began the game strong, outshooting Princeton 14-8 in the first period. Pock gave the Minutemen the lead at 14:50 when he one-timed a Peter Trovato pass into the Tiger net. Pock cheated in from his point and received the pass right in the high slot, where he directed the puck through Princeton goaltender Nate Nomeland's legs. Massachusetts extended its lead to two goals early in the second period when Tim Turner beat Nomeland on a breakaway. Chris Capraro fed Turner at the offensive blueline and Turner skated in for his ninth of the year. Princeton scored its first of two-second period goals at 10:46 when Patton sprung Owen on a breakaway. Owen received the pass on the blueline, skated in on UMass goaltender Gabe Winer, faked and then went to his backhand for his seventh of the season and fifth in the last five games. Princeton evened the score at two late in the second period on a two-man advantage. Working the puck around the perimeter, Patton fed Matt Maglione who found Young on the opposite point. Young skated in and wrested a shot through Winer's legs for his second goal in as many games.
The third period was back-and-forth until UMass scored at 15:57 to take a 3-2 lead. Greg Mauldin fed Matthew Anderson with a breakaway pass and Anderson walked in and beat Nomeland to the five-hole. However, Princeton stormed back and under two minutes later Patton scored his fourth of the season on an end-to-end rush. Young assisted on Patton's power-play goal.
Overtime began and Pock scored on the first shot of the extra stanza. With referee Scott Hansen's hand in the air for a delayed penalty, Pock got off a shot that fooled Nomeland and slid over the goal line to give UMass the 4-3 victory.
Winer made 21 saves to record his eighth win of the year while Nomeland turned aside 33 shots in the loss.
