Wayne State scored three second period and three third period goals to skate past Princeton 7-0 in the first-round of the 52nd Rensselaer/HSBC Holiday Hockey Tournament Saturday afternoon in Troy, N.Y.
Wayne State scored early and never looked back when John Grubb notched his first of two goals on a rebound 3:28 into the first period. Maxim Starchenko, Nick Shrader and Nathan Rosychuk all posted goals in the second period to extend the score to 4-0 after two periods.
Grubb, Starchenko and Rosychuk all scored in the third period to give the Warriors the 7-0 decision.
Eric Leroux stopped 42 of the 49 shots he faced in the loss while Matt Kelly stopped 36 shots to earn the shutout.
Princeton will meet the winner of tonight's Merrimack/Rensselaer game at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow in the tournament's consolation game. The game can be heard at http://www.wrpi.org.
