Box Score
Providence, R.I. - Princeton scored its final 11 points from the foul line on Saturday night and snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 60-53 win over the Brown Bears in Providence, R.I. Maureen Lane led the Tiger charge with 20-points as the Orange and Black improve to 9-15 overall and 3-8 in the Ivy League.
Poor first-half shooting once again plagued the Tigers as they mustered only eight field goals in 30 shot attempts. Lane accounted for all three first-half three-pointers, and finished the period with 11 of Princeton's 21 points.
Brown connected only nine first-half field goals itself, but 6 of 6 free throw shooting and 16 points in the paint gave the Bears a 24-21 advantage at the break. Lane quickly erased that deficit with anther three-pointer to open the second half and ignited an 11-0 run to give the Tigers a 32-24 lead. The Bears chipped away from the free-throw line and with six straight foul shots they regained the lead, 35-34, with eight minutes to play in regulation. Allison Cahill answered with a three-point basket to put the Tigers up. When Brown tied the score at 41-41, Cahill hit another three to give Princeton a lead it would not relinquish.
Cahill finished the game with 12 points and seven rebounds. Six of her points came from the charity stripe, where she was 6 of 6 for the night. Senior Lauren Rigney scored nine points and garnered a team-high nine rebounds as Princeton outrebounded Brown 40-35.
The Bears fall to the basement of the Ivy conference at 2-10 and have an overall mark of 5-20. Princeton is back at Jadwin Gym for the remainder of the schedule with games against Cornell, Columbia and Pennsylvania remaining. The Tigers face Cornell on Friday, March 1 at 7 p.m.
