Marietta, Ga. - In the first match of the day, Princeton lost to the Spartans of UNC-Greensboro 5-0. In the second game, the Tigers faced their toughest opponent in Florida State, currently ranked No. 20 in the nation, and lost 5-1. Princeton slips to 8-12 on the season.
Princeton put runners at first and second in the first inning against UNC Greensboro when Brie Galicinao singled to left field and Kristin Del Calvo singled up the middle but the Tigers were unable to advance the runners any further.
Kim Benningfield led-off for the Spartans with double into left field and stole third with no outs in the first inning. Kristy Norton put a bunt down a few feet off home plate on the squeeze and Benningfield slid around the tag to put the Spartans up 1-0. Princeton's Lauren Chmielewski led-off the top of the third with a double into right-center field. Next batter up was Wendy Bingham who reached on a fielder's choice. Galicinao lined into a double play to the second baseman who caught Chmieleski off second place and the Princeton threat ended.
The Spartans added one in the third and one in the fourth to increase the lead to 3-0. Amanda Johnson's two run blast in the sixth increased the score to 5-0. That would be the score when the game ended.
Florida State opened a 1-0 lead in the top of the first in the Tiger's second game of the day. Shundra Colzie's solo homerun in third put the Seminoles up 2-0. Kimmy Carter's two-run blast over the right-center field increased the Florida State lead to 4-0.
Brandi Stuart's homerun in the fifth was the third Seminole homerun of the game and moved the score to 5-0.
Galicinao's lead off the sixth with a solo homerun over the right field fence cutting the score to 5-1. Galicinao's run was the first for the Tigers in 12 innings of play and would be all the Tigers would get today.
Galicinao was the losing pitcher against Florida State. She struckout 10 Seminal batters and allowed eight hits.
Princeton will host Rutgers on Wednesday at 1895 field.
