Final Stats
Princeton played host to in-state rival Rutgers in a doubleheader at 1895 Field. The Tigers defeated the Scarlet Knights, 1-0 in the first game. Princeton used a seven-run second inning to defeat Rutgers, 9-1 in the nightcap. The Tigers improve to 10-12 on the season while Rutgers slips to 3-13.
Brie Galicinao, the Tiger's pitcher gave up one hit in the first then went on to strike out the side to open up the first game of the day. By the end of the match, Galicinao had struck-out eight Scarlet Knights and allowed only four hits. Galicinao's season record now stands at 3-3.
Lead-off Kristin Lueke scored in the first inning when she singled down the left line, stole second on moved to third on a wild pitch. Lueke came home when a passed ball got by Rutgers' catcher Crystal Vargas. The lone run would be all the Tigers needed. Princeton put runners at the corners in the second with one out when Melissa Finley singled to the third baseman. Finley moved to second on fielder choice and then to third on a single off the bat of Erin Valocsik. The Scarlet Knights' pitcher, Andria Koehler got the Tigers to hit a couple ground balls and Princeton failed to put any more runs on the board.
Becky Nemec reached on an error and Finley was hit by a pitch, to put runners at first and second with no outs in the second inning of the nightcap. Mackenzie Forsythe's single loaded the bases. Wendy Bingham's double into right field scored Nemec and Finley and put the Tigers up 2-0. Forsythe scored on a wild pitch. Galicinao's triple into centerfield scored Bingham and Lueke. As the Tigers batted around, Nemec's single scored Del Calvo. By the end of the second inning, the Tigers had scored seven runs, on six hits and two errors.
Rutgers got on the board in the third when Meaghan Asselta's triple scored Dana Komar.
Kim Veenstra blast over the centerfield wall also scored Galicinao and the game ended in six innings as the Tigers went up 9-1.
Bingham was the winning pitcher for the Tigers, improving to 3-3, striking out five Scarlet Knights and allowing only three hits in five innings of work.
"We had great pitching on the day," says head coach Maureen Davies. "We were a little flat offensively in the first game but Brie kept us in there. We played good defense all day and did a much better job of making adjustments offensively in the second game. It is a great a way to go into conference play this weekend."
