Baseball Falls to William & Mary 6-1

WILLIAMSBURG, VA - Princeton could not overcome a six-run first inning from William & Mary, dropping the first half of Saturday's doubleheader with the Tribe, 6-1. The Tigers fall to 2-11 and extend their losing streak to eight games. William & Mary improves to 14-10.
Princeton put its only run on the board in the top of the third inning. Eric Fitzgerald walked to open the inning. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on Pat Boran's ground out to third base. Jon Miller took the first pitch he from Tribe hurler Ryan Bogardus and lined it up the middle to score Fitzgerald.
The big inning for William & Mary was a six-run bottom of the first inning that would provide their only scoring of the game. Only two of those six runs were earned.
William & Mary was looking to add to its lead with runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the third. David Boehle got Kyle Padgett to fly out to second and John Lentz to ground out to Boran. First baseman Eric Voelker made a great stretch to ensure the third out of the inning.
David Boehle earned his third start of the season for Princeton. He pitched five innings, allowing eight hits and two earned runs, while recording two strikeouts. The loss drops Boehle to 0-2. Tom Rowland came on to pitch the final three innings. He faced nine batters and gave up just one hit.
David Bogardus started on the hill for William & Mary. He brought a 1-0 record and a 2.25 ERA into the contest. In 7.2 innings of work this afternoon he struck out eight Tigers, while giving up six hits and one earned run in the win.
