Princeton, N.J. - Wendy Bingham went two-for-two at the plate, picking up two RBIs as Princeton defeated the visiting Tigers of Towson, 6-0 in game one of the doubleheader. Towson's 2-0 first inning lead would be enough as the Tigers defeated Princeton 2-1 in the nightcap. Princeton moves to 20-14, 6-0 Ivy on the season and will face Harvard, the only other undefeated team in the Ivy League, on Saturday April 15 in a crucial league doubleheader.
Princeton jumped to an early 2-0 lead, scoring two in the first inning. Kristin Lueke singled up the middle, stole second and advanced to third on a ground ball hit to the second baseman. Lueke scored on a double hit by Kim Veenstra. Veenstra scored on a double hit off the bat of Becky Nemec. The Princeton Tigers added two more in the second to increase the lead to 4-0. Jen Neil's bunt single in the fifth scored Nemec and Erin Valocsik was brought home by Bingham in the fifth to make the score 6-0.
Galicinao was the winning pitcher in the game, picking up her seventh shutout of the season. She struck out five Towson batters in four innings of work, giving up only two hits. Bingham pitched the last three innings of the first game, also striking out five batters.
Towson opened an early 2-0 lead in the first inning when Brook Cylde's two-run shot over the centerfield fence scored Michelle Cappe. Princeton's Melissa Finley narrowed the gap in the fourth with a solo shot over the right centerfield fence but the Tigers could not produce any more runs and dropped the nightcap 2-1.
Princeton stranded 10 base-runners in the second game including three in the seventh inning. Bingham, Lueke and Kristin Del Calvo all singled to load the bases in the final inning yet Princeton was unable to bring the tying run home.
Finley was the losing pitcher in the second game. She gave up two runs on four hits while striking out five Towson batters.
The Tigers will face the Crimson of Harvard in a doubleheader schedule to begin at noon on Saturday, April 15 in Cambridge, Mass. Princeton remains 6-0 against Ivy competition and Harvard is 4-0 against league opponents.
