Women's Golf Team Places Third At James Madison Invitational

Harrisonburgh, Va. - Freshman Avery Kiser shot a final-round score of 75 and the Princeton Tigers shot a final-round team score of 314 en route to a third place finish at the 2002 James Madison Invitational. Sunday's round ended with the Tigers scoring a two-day total of 632 at the Lakeview Golf Club in Harrisonburg, Va., 21 strokes back of tournament winner Penn State and four strokes back of host James Madison.
Kiser finished the tournament with rounds of 77 and 75 for a total of 152 and a fourth-place overall finish. Freshman Meg Nakamura shot identical rounds of 77 and scored a 154 on the par 72 course. Kiser and Nakamura lead Princeton in stroke average this spring with Kiser averaging a 76 and Nakamura scoring and average of 78 per round.
Sophomore Esty Dwek scored a two-day total of 160 and junior Vanessa Redman, who was tied with Dwek after one day at the Invitational, shot a final-round score of 84 and finished with a 166. Freshman Taryn Haladay shot a 36-hole score of 171 to wrap up the Princeton scoring on Sunday. "This tournament was a good preparation for next weekend," says Princeton head coach Eric Stein. "We played a tough field today and we know that we have our work cut out for us with both Yale and Brown at the Ivies."
The Tigers defend their 2001 Ivy League Championship at the conference tournament next Saturday-Sunday, April 20-21. Both Yale and Brown competed at the James Madison Invitational with Yale placing right behind Princeton with a 636 and Brown finishing seventh with a team score of 653. The 2002 Ivy League Championships will be played at Trenton, N.J.
