Balkan Named IvyLeagueSports.com Rookie Of The Week

PRINCETON, NJ - Adam Balkan (Fr., Roslyn, NY) has been named the IvyLeagueSports.com Rookie of the Week after helping Princeton post a four wins over Pennsylvania in Ivy League baseball action last weekend. Those wins improved the Tigers, who are riding a six-game winning streak, to 8-11 and 4-0 in Ivy action.
Balkan was 6-for-13 in four games with the Quakers. The starting centerfielder, Balkan went 2-for-3 with two RBI in Princeton's 8-4 win to close out the weekend. He singled home Pat Boran (Sr., Pottsville, PA) for the first run of the five-run sixth inning that put the Tigers ahead for good. He also singled up the middle in the eighth inning to score Boran for the seventh run of the game.
Balkan is batting .299 through the first 19 games of the season on 23-for-77 hitting. He has two doubles, two triples, nine RBI and 11 runs scored.
Boran was named to the honor roll after batting 5-for-13 with two RBI and five runs scores in the four-game sweep. He singles in Steve Young (So., Brabada Hills, CA) with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Tigers came from behind for a 5-4 win in the opening game of the weekend series. He is batting .296 on 21-of-71 hitting with a team-leading 16 RBI in 18 games this season.
Princeton will travel to Rider for a 3 p.m. game on Wednesday, April 3 and will then return home for more Ivy League action. Harvard will come to town on Saturday, April 6 for a doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m. Princeton will then host Dartmouth on Sunday, April 7 at noon in a rematch of last year's Ivy League Championship series. Princeton won that series 2-1 to advance to the NCAA championships.
