Princeton, N.J. - Kim Veenstra was recently named the Ivy League Player of the Week and Brie Galicinao was named the Ivy League Pitcher of the Week as the Tigers went 4-0 in doubleheaders against Rutgers and Penn. Freshman, Becky Nemec was named to the honor roll.
Veenstra batted.384 and hit a pair of homers as the Tigers went 4-0 on the week. In the 9-1 victory over in-state rival Rutgers, Veenstra's two-run blast over the left field fence, in the bottom of the sixth, sealed the deal for the Tigers as the game ended in six innings. Veenstra's second homerun of the week was the game winner as the Tigers defeated the Quakers of Penn, 2-0 in their first Ivy League contest. The two-run shot over the left field fence that also scored Galicinao, would be all the Tigers needed. Veenstra has registered a team high 17 RBIs and .658 slugging percentage.
Galicinao picked up two victories this week, both of which happened to be her second and third shutout of the season. Against Rutgers, Galicinao struckout eight Scarlet Knights, allowed four hits and walked only one batter. Prior to Saturday, Galicinao had thrown two consecutive perfect games against the Quakers of Penn. Though she didn't make it a third year in a row, Galicinao once again struckout eight Quakers, gave up four hits and walked only one batter.
Nemec batted five-for-twelve (.416) in Princeton's four games this week, picking up two RBIs. In the 9-1 victory over Rutgers, Nemec went two-for-three at the plate including a double into deep center field. In the 4-2 victory over Penn, Nemec went two-for-four at the plate, picking up one RBI.
