Villanova, Pa. - Despite a seven-goal effort by senior captain Cassie Nichols, the Tigers fell to the Wolverines of Michigan 10-9 in the championship match of the Southern Divisional Tournament. Michigan opened a 5-1 first quarter lead and the Tigers were unable to catch the Wolverines.
"It was a disappointing game," said head coach Luis Nicolao. "We came out flat and just weren't able to get over the hump. It was good to see us battle back."
Princeton fell behind 5-1 in the first quarter but fought back to go into halftime down 8-7. Each team scored two goals in the third quarter and neither team scored in the fourth as the Wolverines took the match 10-9. Princeton went 2-for-10 on man-up opportunities.
Nichols had seven goals in the loss. Adele McCarthy-Beauvais and Annie Olson each had one. Madeline McCarthy registered 12 saves in the net.
The Tigers returns to action when they host the Eastern Divisional Tournament on April 27-28 at DeNunzio Pool. The winner of the Easterns earns a berth in the NCAA final four.
