Women's Water Polo Defeats Harvard 9-6 in Opening Day Action of Easterns

Princeton, N.J. - Adele McCarthy-Beauvais scored three goals as the Tigers defeated the Crimson of Harvard 9-6 in Princeton's first game of the Eastern Championships. Princeton is hosting the three-day tournament, the winner of which earns a berth in the NCAA tournament.
Princeton, the No. 3 seed in the tournament went into halftime evened with No. 6 Harvard, at 2-2. Both teams held each other scoreless in the first quarter and then tallied two goals in the second. The Tigers used a 4-to-1 run in the third quarter to open a 6-3 lead going into the fourth quarter.
With time expiring and the score at 7-6 in Princeton's favor, freshman keeper, Madeline McCarthy made a crucial save to keep the Tigers up. Cassie Nichols played the ball in front of the net to Jenny Edwards, who one timed it into the net to increase the score to 8-6. Nichols added the final goal of the match as the Tigers picked up the 9-6 victory.
Nichols and Edwards each had two goals while Courtney Welsh and Annie Olson each tallied one. The Tigers will face No. 10 Bucknell at noon tomorrow. If the Tigers win, they would most likely face No. 2 Hartwick at 7:00 p.m.
