Princeton, N.J. - Erin Valocsik's two run blast in the fourth inning, is what the Tigers needed as they defeated the Pirates of Seton Hall, 3-2 in their second game of the Princeton Invitational. Princeton defeated Manhattan 9-2 in its first game of the tournament. With the wins, Princeton improves to 31-15, 13-1 IVY and remains the only undefeated team headed into day two of the tournament.
Kim Veenstra and Becky Nemec each batted 2-for-4 against Manhattan and Melissa Finley hit 2-for-3 as the Tigers defeated the Jaspers 9-2. Manhattan posted an early lead, scoring two runs in the first but the Tigers answered in the bottom of the same inning, scoring five runs. The Tigers scored three more runs in the third and added one more in the bottom of the sixth as they cruised to the victory. Wendy Bingham was the winning pitcher in the game, earning four strikeouts and allowing eight hits.
Valocsik's two run blast in the fourth inning gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead against Seton Hall. Kim Veenstra's solo shot in the same inning had given the Tigers the 1-0 lead. Seton Hall threatened in the fifth inning, posting two runs, but the Tigers held on to remain the only undefeated team in the tournament.
Brie Galicinao was the winning pitcher, striking out seven and allowing only five hits.
Princeton will face St. Peter's tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. Seton Hall defeated St. Peter's, 6-0 and St. Peter's defeated Manhattan, 4-3 in tournament play. The first game schedule for tomorrow is Seton Hall versus Manhattan. The championship game will start at approximately 1:30 p.m.
