Princeton, N.J. - The Tigers fell to the Hawks of Hartwick 11-9 in the semifinals of the Eastern Tournament. Hartwick advances to the final game and will face Michigan; the winner of that match will earn a trip to the NCAA tournament. Prior to the game against Hartwick, Princeton defeated Bucknell 11-5.
The Tigers and the Hawks went into the fourth quarter even at 8-8. Hartwick converted on two man-up opportunities to open a 10-8 lead three minutes into the final quarter. The Tigers turned the ball over on their own man-up opportunity and Hartwick's Megan Thompson netted her second goal of the period to give the hawks an 11-8 advantage. Princeton's Cassie Nichols added one goal for the Tigers with 2:21 remaining on the clock but that was all the Tigers would get as they fell to Hartwick.
Kelly Melia-Teevan and Nichols each had two goals in the match. Joanna Armstrong, Annie Olson, Melinda Martin, Adele McCarthy-Beauvais and Courtney Welsh each had one goal in the loss.
Jenny Edwards and Nichols each had three goals as the Tigers defeated Bucknell 11-5 earlier in the day.
Princeton will face Indiana tomorrow at 10:50 a.m. in a match to determine third place.
