JAMAICA, NY - Tim Lahey crushed a three-run home run over the fence in dead center in the top of the sixth inning to lift Princeton to a 7-5 win over St. John's on Tuesday night in Jamaica, NY. The Tigers improve to 20-18 with the win, while St. John's drops to 23-20.
Pat Boran's single to center to open the seventh inning allowed him to claim sole possession of Princeton's all-time hits record. Daniel Arendas '86 held the previous record of 202 hits, which he established from 1983-86. Boran crossed the plate in the third inning to score the 141st run of his career, which now puts him in first place in the Princeton record book for runs scored in a career.
Jon Miller's ground rule double down the left field line in the third inning scored Boran and Eric Fitzgerald to give Princeton a 3-2 lead. Ryan Eldridge singled up the middle to plate Miller and give the Tigers a two-run cushion. St. John's recaptured the lead with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
David Boehle threw the first four innings, scattering seven hits and three earned runs. He also recorded five strikeouts. Ryan Quillian came in to pitch the next four innings, and gave up just five hits and two runs to improve top 2-4. He also recorded five strikeouts.
Thomas Pauly came to the mound in the ninth inning and recorded his ninth save of the season. He is now tied with Boehle in the Princeton record books for saves in a season.
Princeton will close the regular season portion of its Ivy League schedule the weekend. The Tigers will be looking to clinch the Gehrig Division title during the four-game series with Cornell.
