Final Stats
Princeton, N.J. - Erin Valocsik's full-count, two-out, solo home run in the fourth inning gave the Tigers the 1-0 lead in the first game against Columbia. Princeton went on to win the first contest in today's doubleheader, 2-0. In the second game of the afternoon, the Tigers once again defeated the Lions, 2-0. Princeton improves to 15-13 and remains undefeated in League play at 4-0. Columbia slips to 13-11, 0-2 in the Ivy League.
Valocsik's solo shot was the first of her career and gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. For the game, she hit three-for-three at the plate in the seventh spot. Becky Nemec's homerun in the sixth inning, was also the first of her collegiate career, and put Princeton up 2-0. Those two runs would hold and the Tigers picked up their third League victory of the season. Brie Galicinao was the winning pitcher striking out 12 Columbia batters while allowing only one hit. For Galicinao, today's victory was her fifth shutout of the season and the fourth in a row. The 12 strikeouts is the most she has registered this season in a single game and the one hit is the fewest hits she has allowed all year. In her two Ivy appearances, she has struck out 20 batters and allowed only five hits.
Melissa Finley scored the first run of the second game when she doubled into left field and was hit home on a double off the bat of Mackenzie Forsythe in the second inning. Kim Veenstra added the Tigers second run of the she doubled into left center field and was knocked home by Finley's second double of the game.
Wendy Bingham was the winning pitcher, improving to 5-3 on the season. She struck out four Columbia batters and allowed only three hits, earning her first shutout of the season.
The Tigers return to action tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. when they host the Big Red of Cornell.
