Tigers Softball Defeats Rider 9-1 and 5-2

Princeton, N.J. - Brie Galicinao tripled down the right field line in the first Tiger at bat of the day. Princeton would not cool off at the plate as the Tigers defeated the Broncs of Rider 9-1 in the first game, and 5-2 in the second game of the doubleheader. Princeton improves to 19-13, 6-0 IVY on the season while Rider slips to 8-23, 1-3 MAAC.
Del Calvo singled to right field, scoring Galicinao in the first inning for the Tigers' first run. Next batter up was Kim Veenstra. Veenstra sent one over the left field fence, scoring Del Calvo to increase the Princeton lead to 3-0 after one inning.
Rider's Amanda Tu posted one run in the top of the second to make the score 3-1. The Tigers added three more in the second inning and two more in the fifth as the game ended early due to the eight-run rule. Galicinao went two-for-two with one RBI and two runs scored in the lead off spot. Kristin Lueke hit three-for-four, including a triple, picking up three RBIs and one run. Kim Veenstra hit two-for-three, picking up three RBIs and scored one run.
Wendy Bingham was the winning pitcher in the game, improving to 6-3 on the season. In four innings of work she allowed four Broncs hits and no earned runs. Melissa Finley pitched the final inning.
The Tigers opened a 3-0 lead in the third inning of the second game when Jen Neil and Galicinao scored on a double hit off the bat of Del Calvo. Veenstra hit her own double into left center field to score Del Calvo.
Maddy Boulden scored in the fourth for Rider to make the score 3-1 but Princeton answered in the fifth and sixth innings posting one run in each. Rider added one run in the seventh inning but it would be too little too late as the Tigers wrapped up the doubleheader, taking the second game 5-2.
Galicinao was the winning pitcher in the second game, striking out seven Broncs batters and giving up four hits. She allowed no earned runs. Sarah Jane White came in to relieve Galicinao in the seventh and gave up one run on one hit.
The Tigers host the Tigers of Towson in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, April 11 at 3:00 p.m.
