Princeton, N.J. - Freshman Alex Reison scored his first career goal in the 83rd minute of play as Princeton and Seton Hall battled to a 1-1 tie on a rain-soaked Sunday afternoon at Lourie-Love Field. The Tigers posted 13 shots and eight corner kicks, but in the end, finish the day at 0-0-2.
After a scoreless first half, Mark Pedreiras slipped one past Princeton senior goalkeeper Jason White and Seton Hall led 1-0. The Tigers had several opportunities to tie, including a shot off the post from freshman Darren Spicer.
Reison checked into the game at 81:29, his first-ever collegiate action. It didn't take long for the freshman to make an impact, scoring the first goal of his career at 83:06. There would be no more scoring with both goalies making big stops. White finished with seven saves, Alex McDonald finished with eight saves for Seton Hall. "We played well enough to win today," says Princeton coach Jim Barlow. "We had opportunities to score, but did not capitalize."
After setting a school record with five ties in 2001, the Tigers have two after only two games in 2002. No Princeton team had ever started a season with two ties prior to this season.
"It's frustrating not to get a win," says senior tri-captain Jeff Hare. "But the two teams we tied this year are two of the better teams in the region if not the country."
The Tigers and Pirates played in the second game of today's doubleheader. Pennsylvania defeated Fairleigh Dickinson 1-0 in the first game. Princeton will play in another tournament next weekend when the face Drexel on Friday and La Salle on Sunday. Both games are at noon and will be played at Penn.
