Bethlehem, Pa. - Krista Ariss had a goal and assist as three different Princeton players scored first half goals in a 3-0 win over Lehigh in women's soccer.
The victory kept the 21st ranked Tigers unbeaten on the young season at 3-0. Princeton has outscored its opponents 7-1 and has posted back-to-back shutouts.
"This was a good game for us," said senior defender Kelly Sosa. "It was good to get the early goals. We had some good combinations. We didn't finish in the second half, but we were able to get a lot of people out there and use a lot of players."
Ariss scored at 10:59, her second goal on the season, on a blast from just inside the 18 off a feed from Liz Bell. Ariss then assisted on a give-and-go exactly 10 minutes later on freshman Emily Behncke's first career goal to make it 2-0. The lead grew to three just before halftime when Esmerelda Negron took a cross from Maura Gallagher and converted into the open net. Gallagher, last week's Ivy League Rookie of the Week, has at least one point in each game this season.
Princeton outshot Lehigh 10-2. Jean Poster made just one save in goal while splitting the game with Madeleine Jackson. Erin Iwaskiewicz made seven saves for Lehigh.
The Tigers' next game is Saturday against Dartmouth in a matchup of teams that tied for the Ivy title a year ago. Princeton is 1-0 in the league after a 2-0 win over Yale last weekend; Dartmouth is playing its first league game.
"It's a huge game for us," said Princeton coach Julie Shackford. "Dartmouth is big and strong and athletic. They've played some tough teams. It's going to be tough."
