Boston, Mass. - Esmeralda Negron took a pass from Liz Bell, faked past the goalkeeper and lifted a shot into the open right corner of the net at 1:33 of overtime to give the 23rd-ranked Princeton women's soccer team a 2-1 win over Boston University.
Princeton, who defeated Boston College 1-0 Friday, improved to 7-0-0 on the season. Boston University, the defending America East Conference champion, fell to 3-5-1.
Princeton had trailed 1-0 after a goal by BU's Ashley Chassar in the 70th minute, marking the first time that the Tigers had trailed all season. Princeton tied the score on a goal by Kristina Fontanez, her team-best fifth, two minutes later and then won it in OT.
"We showed a lot of character," said Princeton coach Julie Shackford. "We had a lot of good chances, but their goalkeeper [Jessica Clinton] did a nice job. We had two or three sure goals that she stopped, but we stayed patient." Kelly Sosa started the game-winning play by taking a ball on the right side and feeding Bell, who skipped it to Negron. After cutting past one defender, Negron then dribbled past Clinton, who came out of the goal, and converted into the open net for her fourth goal of the year.
Princeton outshot BU 18-9. Clinton made 10 saves for the Terriers, while Jean Poster made three saves for the Tigers. Princeton hosts George Mason Wednesday night (6 p.m.).
