The following are quotes taken from Wednesday's media luncheon for the Princeton-Brown football game this Saturday at 1 p.m. Both teams are looking for their first Ivy League victory.
Princeton head coach Roger Hughes
"I agree with [Coach Estes] that these are two teams who are ready to break out and who need this win to stay in the race. We need to focus on cleaning up our mistakes, execution and communication. On the defensive side of the ball, we made major improvements from last week. Overall our kicking game was much improved, too. Offensively, I think we took a step back in execution and mental errors."
"Brown traditionally has the potential to score a lot of points. We can't sit on any lead."
"We're focusing on the little things and playing attention to detail every time we step on the field. There is certainly a greater sense of urgency now. From the way we've practiced this week, I see that the players are holding themselves accountable." "I think the key to an offense is to be balanced. In this day and age, you can't win all the time being one-dimensional."
Brown head coach Phil Estes
"I think these are two very evenly matched football teams. Looking at what we both average in points per game and what we're giving up, it's very close. We're both capable of making big plays but inconsistency and turnovers have hurt us both."
"The home team has won the last five meetings between these teams so I guess that means this is our game."
"These are two teams ready to break out and find themselves. Princeton is a very dangerous football team that can break out at any time.
"Our offensive line has been hot and cold. We need to protect the quarterback better. But we're young, with four new starters, and they've gotten better each game. If we clean up our mistakes, we can be a good football team."
senior defensive back Blake Perry
"We don't feel like we have any rookies [in the secondary]. I put pressure on the young guys and they put pressure on me to challenge ourselves. The young guys have realized that they're not young anymore and that they can't play like they're young."
