Justin Stull was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week, while Tim Strickland was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week, just two days after the young duo led Princeton to its first victory this season, a 34-14 win at Brown.
Stull had 15 tackles, a career high, and nine solo stops for the Tigers in their 34-14 victory over Brown. The Tiger defense was on the field for 95 plays and allowed just one play of 20 yards or more. In all, Princeton allowed fewer than four yards per play. Stull leads the Tigers in both tackles (55) and tackles for a loss (seven).
"Justin is a humble young man," linebackers coach Don Dobes said, "who exhibits a thirst for the game and a desire to improve each week."
Strickland had a career-high nine tackles and added four passes defensed and his first career interception in Princeton's 34-14 win over Brown. Strickland had four solo stops and also returned his interception 79 yards to help seal the Tigers' first victory.
"Tim is a very competitive young man," defensive backs coach Eric Jackson said. "I see him strive to improve each day. It's very important to him to be the best."
Princeton junior tailback Branden Benson was named to the Ivy League Honor Roll carried the ball 22 times for 128 yards and two touchdowns in Princeton's 34-14 win over Brown. He averaged 5.8 yards per carry and scored both of his touchdowns in the decisive 21-point fourth quarter. He also completed a pass to B.J. Szymanski for a two-point conversion.
