Haunted By Harvard

Princeton's last trip to Harvard for women's soccer went well. Most of Princeton's other games against Harvard have not. Princeton looks to reverse its history this weekend when it travels to take on the Crimson (Saturday, 11 a.m.).
History lesson - Princeton is 5-18 all-time against Harvard. It is Princeton's worst record against an Ivy Leage opponent and second-worst record against any team it has played more than three times (1-5 vs. Connecticut).
More history - Princeton is 1-7 against Harvard since Julie Shackford became head coach.
On the one hand ... - Princeton has been outscored 21-3 by Harvard since Julie Shackford became head coach.
... on the other hand - Princeton's lone win against Harvard under Julie Shackford came in Princeton's last visit to Cambridge, in 2001. Polling place - Princeton is ranked 24th by the NSCAA and 22nd by SoccerBuzz in this week's Division I rankings.
Poison Ivy - Princeton is in second place in the Ivy League at 3-1-0, one game behind 4-0-0 Dartmouth, the only team to defeat the Tigers. Dartmouth hosts Columbia Sunday.
No place like road - Princeton has scored three goals against Harvard since Julie Shackford became head coach; all three of them have come in Cambridge.
More road - Princeton is 5-0-0 at home and 4-1-2 on the road.
Well rested - Princeton will have had eight days between its last game (a 3-0 win over Columbia) and its game against Harvard. Princeton's only loss this season (3-2 at Dartmouth) came in its only other game with at least seven days off.
How sweet it Es - Esmeralda Negron scored the game-winning goal in overtime in Princeton's 2-1 win over Harvard two years ago.
More Es - Esmeralda Negron was named Ivy League Player of the Week and to the SoccerBuzz Elite Team of the Week after scoring three goals and adding an assist in Princeton's two wins last week.
I'm honored - Esmeralda Negron has been named to the SoccerBuzz Elite Team of the Week twice this season.
Moving up the charts - Esmeralda Negron 11 goals rank fourth on Princeton's single-season list; her 25 points rank fourth. She also ranks fourth with 24 career goals and sixth with 53 career points.

Sweet 16 - Esmeralda Negron ranks 16th in Division I in goals per game and points per game. She leads the Ivy League in both.
Net minded - Princeton rotated its goalkeepers in each of the first nine games of the season, with Madeleine Jackson and Emily Vogelzang each playing one half; the Tigers had one shutout in those nine games. Princeton has used one or the other for the entire game each of the last three, and all three have been shutouts (Jackson vs. Brown, Vogelzang vs. BU and Columbia).
D plus - Princeton has not allowed a goal in its last 299:10, dating to its game against Rutgers.
Youth movement - Princeton has scored 30 goals, 28 of which have been scored by players who return next season.
Aw, shoot -- Princeton has averaged 18.6 shots per game this season; its opponents have averaged 8.3.
Geography lesson - Princeton's starting defense features one Hawaiian (Romy Trigg-Smith) and three Canadians (Rochelle Willis, Janine Willis, Brea Griffiths).
Minute-women - Janine Willis has played every minute of every game this season. Romy Trigg-Smith, Rochelle Willis and Brea Griffiths have each missed fewer than 10 minutes this season.
Sophomore slump? - Emily Behncke has six goals and five assists this season after having five goals and no assists last year as the Ivy League Rookie of the Year and a second-team All-Ivy selection.
