ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Senior Dan McKenna scored two goals in the final game of his Princeton career and the men's water polo team ended its season with an 8-6 loss to Navy in the title game of the Eastern Championships.
Navy, who Princeton defeated three times this season, took a 2-1 lead after the first quarter with freshman Reid Joseph scoring the only goal for the Tigers. McKenna, D.J. Halliday and Jamal Motlagh each scored in the second quarter, helping Princeton to a 4-3 advantage at the half.
But the Midshipmen held the Tigers scoreless in the third quarter and entered the final period with a 6-4 lead. John Stover scored a four meter and McKenna scored his second goal but Navy held on for the 8-6 win.
Princeton went just 2 for 11 on its 6-on-5's.
"This is a disappointing end to our season but overall we had a great year," head coach Luis Nicolao said. "I'm proud of our guys. They fought hard but it was just one of those days that we couldn't make a shot."
The Tigers end their season with a 23-4 overall record, an ECAC Championship, a Southern Championship and a runners-up title at Easterns. Stover and goalkeeper Peter Sabbatini were named first-team All-East and McKenna earned second team honors.
