Wrestling Falls In Ivy Finale

Princeton, N.J. - Princeton closed out the 2002-03 regular season with tough 25-15 loss at Pennsylvania on Saturday. The Tigers earned wins in the 165-pound, 184-pound, 141-pound and 157-pound classes, but it wasn't enough against the 16th-ranked Quakers.
The Tigers jumped out to the early team lead by taking the first match of the afternoon. Charles Wiggins defeated Richard Ferguson by a 7-4 score in the 165-pound class to give Princeton a 3-0 advantage.
The Quakers tied the dual meet at 3-3 following Greg Hallahan's, 8-4, win over Andy Avsec at 174-lbs., but Princeton moved back out in front of the dual meet with Greg Parker taking down Ethan Bullock in the 184-pound match. Parker scored the fall in 1:01 and gave the Tigers a 9-3 lead.
At 197-lbs, Paul Velekei of Penn earned a slim 13-8 victory over Matt Fisher and the score was 9-6 Princeton. Penn then won in the 258-pound class and took a 10-9 lead it would not relinquish.
Princeton battled throughout with wins from Joe Clarke, who stepped up and defeating Doug McGraw in 141-lbs. and Milo Adams, who won the final match of the afternoon, defeating Brett Vanderveer, 4-3 at 157lbs.
The Tigers finish the regular season with a 5-12 overall record. Penn improves to 8-2 on the season.
Princeton wrestles at the EIWA Championships at Cornell on March 7-8. The NCAA Championships are March 20-22 and are held at Kansas City.
