FAIRFAX, Va. - Erin Snyder batted 2 for 2 with one run and two RBIs, and pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and just one walk in Princeton's 6-1 win over George Mason University at the George Mason Invitational.
Snyder struck out two Patriots in the first inning before she put the Tigers on the board in the next half. She hit a perfect shot up the middle to score Melissa Finley, who got on base with a walk.
The freshman Tiger gave up a hit in the second to left fielder Tasha Galecki, whose smack down the right field line earned her a triple, but Snyder caught the next two batters swinging.
Princeton's put the Patriots away in the bottom of the third when it scored four runs and upped its lead to 5-0. Finley doubled as leadoff and advanced to third on a slapper by Wendy Bingham, who was thrown out at first. She scored when shortstop Cristina Cobb-Adams singled to right field. Snyder doubled to centerfield to score Cobb-Adams and scored herself after Erin Valocsik and Ty Ries hit back-to-back singles. Valocsik managed to run out a throw to home for the Tigers' fifth run before the end of the inning. Kristin Lueke opened the fourth inning with a successful bunt, and scored when Cobb-Adams singled to deep left field. The Tigers led 6-0 after four, and Norfolk's only run came in the sixth when a single by Jen Schultz scored Missy Hartman, who also got on base with a single.
Princeton improved to 6-9 overall and Snyder moved to a 3-4 record in her rookie season.
