FAIRFAX, Va. - Wendy Bingham allowed no walks and just three hits to hold Norfolk State scoreless and lead Princeton to a 10-0 shutout in its second game at the George Mason Invitational. The Tigers made no errors for their second straight game.
After three scoreless innings for both teams, the Tigers came alive, never relented, and finished the game with the mercy rule.
Princeton scored three runs in the fourth beginning with Ty Ries' single past shortstop Allison Green. Nicole Davida and Kristin Lueke followed with singles to load the bases before Melissa Finley grounded past third to score Ries. Cristina Cobb-Adams doubled on a fly to centerfield and brought home Davida and Lueke.
In the fifth inning, freshman Amanda Erickson singled, Erin Valocsik doubled, and Ries, Erickson, Valocsik, and pinch runner Kelly Baril all scored.
Three more runs for the Tigers in the sixth forced the mercy rule to end the game with Princeton on top, 10-0.
Princeton, now 7-9, plays tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
