Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton baseball team took two of the five major awards annually handed out by the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association. Junior Thomas Pauly was named the pitcher of the year while Tiger coach Scott Bradley was named the coach of the year.
Pauly has been a force coming out of the Princeton bullpen all season long. Pauly became a double threat late in the season by starting two games and pitching complete-game wins in both, including a four-hitter in the decisive game of the Ivy League Championship Series that clinched a league title and NCAA tournament berth for the Tigers. He now has a 1.25 ERA and has struck out 73 batters in 50.1 innings. Those numbers currently rank him third in the nation in ERA and fourth in strikeouts per nine innings pitched.
Bradley led Princeton back to the NCAA tournament after the Tigers fell two games short a season ago. In Bradley's six season's at Princeton, the Tigers have won six Gehrig Division Championships and three Ivy League titles. The 2003 Tigers rank second in the program's history in wins with 27 and Bradley currently is four wins shy of the 150th of his career. In addition to the major awards, four other Tigers were named to all-state teams. Sophomore B.J. Szymanski was named to the first-team and well as the rookie team. Named to the second team were senior pitcher Ryan Quillian and senior shortstop Mike Chernoff. Lastly, freshman Andrew Salini was named to the all-rookie team.
Princeton returns to action at the NCAA tournament the final weekend in May. The Tigers will learn of the location and opponent when the NCAA annouces the brackets on May 26.
