PRINCETON, N.J. - Sophomore Melissa Finley has been named to the Division I Louisville Slugger/NFCA Northeast All-Region second team at the utility position for the 2003 season.
The pitcher/outfielder helped Princeton reach a 24-21-1 overall record, an 11-3 conference mark and the outright Ivy League title, and the NCAA regional playoffs for the second straight year. Finley led the Tigers in almost every offensive statistic with team-highs in batting average (.414), runs (30), hits (58), doubles (10), home runs (14) and RBIs (44). She also accumulated 112 total bases, which was almost twice as many as any of her teammates, and finished with an .800 slugging percentage and a .503 on base percentage.
Finley started in all 45 games for Princeton, 13 of which were on the mound. She won seven games and recorded 45 strikeouts in 81 innings. She was named the Ivy League Player of the Week on two occasions and finished the season as the unanimous Ivy League Player of the Year.
Finley was one of 26 players in the Northeast region to be honored on the first or second team, all of whom advance for possible selection to the All-America team.
