Here are excerpts from today's post-game press conference, featuring Scott Bradley, Ryan Quillian and B.J. Szymanski, following a 5-2 loss to Auburn in the first game of the NCAA Regional.
Quoting Princeton Head Coach Scott Bradley
"Baseball's such an interesting game in that you have this type of atmosphere with this crowd and all that Princeton orange around the stadium. Sometimes, baseball can just be a very methodical type of game which starts with pitching. It was just a regular baseball game played in a really great environment. I believe that had a lot to do with the pitching on both sides."
On Auburn's Levale Speigner*
"I thought (Levale) Speigner threw the ball extremely well. You can tell that he's a great competitor. He moves the ball around and keeps the ball down in the zone. You can see that we hit a number of ground balls. We never had a chance to really get anything going."
On Auburn*
"Auburn played a great game. They got great pitching and put together some hits. In the end, that results in a 5-2 game. I thought the atmosphere, crowd and environment makes this experience that much more special for our guys."
Quoting Princeton Pitcher Ryan Quillian
"I had a great time out there tonight. I thought I had my good stuff and the guys played really well behind me. They just hit what I was throwing at them. I thought we hit the ball well. We just got out played by Auburn tonight."
On his last college start*
"I was fired up when I went out there. I was throwing really hard in the bullpen before the game. When I got to the mound at the start of the game, I calmed myself down well. I am sad that it was my last start of my career, but I thought I pitched well for my last outing."
Quoting Princeton Centerfielder B.J. Szymanski
"I thought we came out a little slow tonight. Ryan pitched well, but I just think Auburn was pitching to the right place. We did not catch a lot of break tonight when we needed them. Overall, after the 3rd inning, I thought we hit the ball okay."
On Levale Speigner's split-finger fastball*
"I only saw two (fastballs) tonight, and neither one was a strike. A lot of his pitches were just fastballs on the outside of the plate. I thought that I missed a couple of chances that I would have like to have back. (Levale Speigner) just placed the ball really well tonight.
