Princeton, N.J. - Princeton reliever Thomas Pauly, who two weeks ago was chosen 51st overall by Cincinnati in the Major League Baseball draft, signed with the Reds and will report to Class A Dayton where he will join the Dragons starting rotation.
Pauly was 6-2 with a 1.46 ERA for the Tigers in his junior season. By signing with the Reds, he will forego his senior season at Princeton.
In 2003, Pauly ranked among the nation's best in ERA and in strikeouts per nine innings this season. He pitched a total of 55.1 innings, allowing only nine earned runs on 37 hits, while walking 25 and striking out 74. Late in the season, he made two starts, pitching complete game wins on both.
Pauly is Princeton's all-time career leader in saves and strikeouts per nine innings in a career. This season he was named a first-team all-Ivy, state pitcher of the year and a third-team academic all-America.
