Princeton, N.J. - The Cincinnati Reds chose Princeton junior pitcher Thomas Pauly with their second-round pick in the 2003 Major League Baseball Draft. Pauly was the 51st overall pick.
Pauly led the Tigers pitching staff with a 6-2 record and a 1.46 ERA. Additionally, he ranked among the nation's best in ERA and in strikeouts per nine innings this season. He pitched a total of 55.1 innings, allowing only nine earned runs on 37 hits, while walking 25 and striking out 74. Late in the season, he made two starts, pitching complete game wins on both.
Pauly is Princeton's all-time career leader in saves and strikeouts per nine innings in a career. This season he was named a first-team all-Ivy, state pitcher of the year and a third-team academic all-America.
