Men's and Women's Tennis Receives ITA All-Academic Honors

Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton men's and women's tennis teams were both honored as ITA All-Academic Team's yesterday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. In addition, six Princeton women and three Princeton men received ITA Scholar-Athlete status.
The men's team was one of only three Ivy League teams to receive the team distinction and had three players receive scholar athlete status, junior Daniel Friedman and sophomores David Gopstein and Blaise Goswami.
On the women's side, Princeton was one of only two Ivy League teams to have six of its members named scholar athletes. Those honored were senior Kavitha Krishnamurthy, junior Alex Kobishyn, sophomore Stephanie Berg, and freshmen Allison Hashmall, Susan Meng and Rankin Williams. The guidelines for these two distinctions are listed below:
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2002 and spring 2003). In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) Be a varsity letter winner, 2.) Have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) Have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
