PRINCETON, N.J. - Freshman Jame Wunsch scored off a rebound in the 59th minute to lead the men's soccer team past Towson, 1-0, in the final game of the Princeton Invitational at Lourie-Love Field.
"The teams played like it was the second day of a tournament," head coach Jim Barlow said. "Both teams looked tired and played much slower than on Friday."
But Princeton outlasted its opponent on both ends of the field and finished with 13 shots compared to just four by Towson. In a game ladened with 35 combined fouls and six yellow cards, the Tigers struggled but survived.
"We could've played better," Barlow admitted, "but we're happy with the end result."
Wunsch took his first shot of the game at 31:03 in the second half but Towson's Zak Thompson deflected the ball from goal. Chaudhuri rebounded the shot and set up Wunsch, who this time nailed the ball to the back of the net.
Princeton finished its home tournament with a 1-0-1 record and improved to 2-1-1 overall this year. The Tigers host Hartwick next Saturday, Sept. 27 at 5 p.m. The game will be played at the Princeton Stadium instead of Lourie-Love Field.
