Princeton Hosts Hartford In Women's Soccer

The Princeton women's soccer team has played in four straight NCAA tournaments, beginning with a 2-1 loss at Hartford in the opening round of the 1999 event.
The teams meet for the first time since Wednesday night when the Hawks come to Lourie-Love Field for Princeton's final game before the start of the Ivy League season. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
Princeton, off to a 4-0-1 start, is ranked 20th in this week's NSCAA poll. Hartford comes into the game 2-4, 1-1 in the America East.
After taking on the Hawks, Princeton will play seven Ivy League games among its final 11 regular season games.
Princeton vs. Hartford ... a closer look:
One and done - The only previous meeting between Princeton and Hartford came in the opening round of the 1999 NCAA tournament, a game the Hawks won 2-1.
Polling place - Princeton is ranked 20th in the NSCAA poll, ranked 25th in the SoccerBuzz poll and not ranked in the Top 25 by Soccer America. Streaking - Esmeralda Negron has one goal in each of Princeton's first five games.
California dreamin' - Princeton defeated Sacramento State 3-1 and tied then-No. 10 California 1-1 during a trip west last weekend.
D plus - Princeton has outscored its opponents 13-4 and outshot its opponents 112-51.
Heating up - Emily Behncke, the 2002 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, had two goals against Sacramento State and an assist against California.
Ready, set, go - Princeton is undefeated after five games for the fourth straight season.
Hawk-ish - Hartford enters tonight's game with a record of 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the America East Conference, having defeated UMBC and Binghamton and having lost to Notre Dame, Yale, Central Connecticut and Long Beach State.
Conference call - Hartford has already lost to Yale (2-0), plays Princeton tonight and has games later in the season against Brown and Dartmouth.
Scandanavian-ing - Hartford's two leading scorers, Jeannette Akerlund and Hilde Bakke, are from Norway and Sweden. In all, Hartford has three Swedes and one Norwegian.
Net results - Emily Vogelzang, playing the second half and the overtimes, had a career-high six saves against California.
Geography lesson - Princeton's starting defense has three Canadians (Rochelle Willis, Janine Willis, Brea Griffiths) and one Hawaiian (Romy Trigg-Smith).
Math lesson - Esmeralda Negron, No. 23, leads Princeton with 23 shots. Emily Behncke, No. 22, is second with 22 shots.
Homecoming queen - Sylvia Morelli, a San Francisco native, had her first career point with an assist in the game at Sacramento State.
Coming attractions - After opening its season with six non-league games, Princeton opens its Ivy League season Saturday in Princeton Stadium against Yale (7:30, following the men's game against Hartwick). Admission is free.
