Princeton looks to rebound for Saturday's 28-13 loss to Lehigh this weekend when it travels to Lafayette. The following are quotes from Wednesday's media luncheon, featuring Princeton head coach Roger Hughes, offensive line coach Stan Clayton and Lafayette head coach Frank Tavani.
Head coach Roger Hughes
On Lafayette
"This was the hottest team in the Patriot League when the season ended last year. Had they not turned the ball over so much, they would've won that game [against Towson]."
"I think Lafayette is much better team than last year, especially on the offensive side of the ball."
On game vs. Lehigh
"I saw a lot of positives and a lot of good things offensively. I think that overall [quarterback Matt] Verbit played well, but he was in on four of the four turnovers. We need to straighten that out."
"[Freshman punter Colin] McDonough did a fabulous job kicking, not just with distance but with placement as well. He was the Ivy League Rookie of the Week."
"When we were down 28-0, I told them this would be a real test of character ... and to their credit they hung in there. We had our backs against the wall and could've turned it down."
Lafayette head coach Frank Tavani
On Princeton-
"I'm impressed with several of the Princeton athletes, especially [Jon] Veach and [Greg] Fields."
"Our offensive line needs to do a better job especially against Princeton's front four, especially with [Tim] Kirby and [Joe] Weiss. Weiss is one of the best players we'll see all year."
"The two leagues [Ivy and Patriot] are setting the precedent of what college football is all about."
Offensive line coach Stan Clayton
"I was surprised and pleased with how we played, especially with the three guys that never played before. I think the way they play is directly related to playing with great defensive players in practice. Players like Kirby, Weiss and Kelly play very hard and challenge us and help us to play hard."
