Princeton, N.J. - On a day when the number of yellow cards handed out almost equaled the number of shots on goal, Princeton (4-2-2 overall, 0-0-1 Ivy League) and Dartmouth (2-1-4, 0-0-1) clawed their way to a scoreless tie Saturday afternoon at Lourie-Love Field in both teams' Ivy League opener.
Dartmouth had two golden opportunities to get on the scoreboard in regulation play but failed in both attempts. Near the end of the first half Oliver Harker-Smith stabbed at a corner kick right in front of the Princeton net and lifted it over the head of senior goalie Erik White and over the crossbar. Early in the second half, Sam Porter had a chance for the Big Green, but White was able to slide and disrupt his pass attempt in the goal box.
Porter again had a chance in the second overtime, stretching out to take a shot off a crossing pass, but White sprawled to his right to make the save.
The Big Green had one final chance to get the golden goal with under one minute remaining in the second overtime. Mike Ordonez sent a pass across the front of the net that got past White, but the Tigers were able to clear before their oppponents could punch it home.
Dartmouth's stifling defense held the Tigers from getting their first shot on goal until the 57th minute. Combined, the teams managed just five shots on goal.
Tensions heated as the clock wound down in the second half and culminated with a shoving match midway through the first overtime. Dartmouth racked up all four of the yellow cards dispersed in the game.
