Box Score
After only three wins in their last nine games, the Tigers were starving for a win. The meal: the Peacocks of Saint Peter's. Adrian Melville scored twice and Teddy van Beuren added a goal and an assist as men's soccer (7-4-3) topped Saint Peter's (7-4-4) 4-2 at Lourie-Love Field on Wednesday night.
Princeton wasted little time getting on the board as van Beuren knocked home a pass from the corner from Ben Young to put the Tigers ahead 1-0 in the fifth minute.
After a back and forth next 30 minutes, Melville made his first strike, redirecting a crossing pass from Zach Schwarz just under the crossbar in the 36th minute. Saint Peter's halved the lead just seven minutes later when Douglas Narvaez broke into the middle of the goal box and redirected a crossing pass into the upper left corner of the net, beating Princeton goalie Bobby Guelich.
As in the first half, the Tigers scored quickly in the second when Darren Spicer dribbled past Peacock goalie Pat Nagawiecki to the right side, then sent a crossing pass to the left side to Rachman Blake, who finished easily.
Again the next 30 minutes passed without a goal. Princeton tacked on an insurance score in the 84th minute when Melville scored his second of the game off a pass from van Beuren.
Saint Peter's got one back four minutes later when Sylvers Owusu ran by his defender, took a pass from teammate Alano Groves and sent a shot past Guelich.
The Tigers' next game is Saturday at Cornell at 7 p.m. Saturday, November 6 is the final home game of the year as Princeton hosts Penn at 4 p.m. at Lourie-Love Field. The team then closes out the season at Yale on November 13.
