Box Score
Men's soccer was looking for nothing but a win Saturday night against Cornell, a team that came into the contest 0-4 in Ivy League play, but a Darren Spicer goal in the 28th minute was all the offense the Tigers could muster. The end result: a 1-1 tie in Ithaca.
Goaltending was the key as both teams had scoring opportunities throughout the match. Spicer missed on a chance in close early on before getting his goal at 27:09. Ben Young sent a pass across the field to Spicer at the far post for an easy finish and a 1-0 lead.
The Big Red responded in the 60th minute when Brian Scruton booted a pass from the right side across to Kuda Wekwete on the left side of the goal box. Wekwete beat goalie Erik White to the right corner to tie the game at one.
Cornell became the aggressor in the overtime periods, outshooting the Tigers 8-4. The hosts nearly ended the game in the second overtime when Pape Seye had White beat but sent a header over the crossbar.
Princeton was outshot for the game 18-16. White made nine saves for the Tigers and David Mahoney stopped eight for the Big Red.
Princeton is now 7-4-4 overall and 2-1-2 in the Ivy League, while Cornell picked up only its second non-loss of the season and is 1-11-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the conference.
The Tigers now look ahead to their final home game of the year -- Saturday against Penn at 4 p.m.
