Women's Basketball Opens The 2004-05 Season On Friday

Princeton, N.J. - Would you rather engage yourself in a night of collegiate basketball than sit at home on a Friday night? Well fans, I have good news for you. The women's basketball team opens it's 2004-05 campaign with a contest against Monmouth at 7 p.m. on Friday night in Jadwin Gymnasium. The game can also be heard on WPRB 103.3.
Princeton Game Notes
Long Time No See - Princeton and Monmouth have only met twice before. Monmouth currently holds a 2-0 win streak over the Tigers, including the last meeting in 1980 when a 79-72 verdict was handed in.
Home Sweet Home - The Tigers are 2-1 in home openers under Richard Barron and 1-2 against NEC opponents a home.
Conference Rulings - Princeton is 22-13 all-time against the NEC and 2-3 under Richard Barron. Injury Report - Ali Prichard is currently sidelined due to injury, while Casey Lockwood will continue to rehab her knee after tearing her ACL last season. She is expected to return to the line up in December.
Stepping Up - Last season the starting lineup was heavily impacted by freshmen, led by two All-Rookie selections, Katy Digovich and Casey Lockwood. This season's freshmen are also expected to make an early impact with wingmen Meagan Cowher and Ali Prichard and post Ariel Rogers looking to show their stuff.
In Her League - Becky Brown currently has the top career field goal percentage of any Tiger in program's history with a .534. She ranks among the leaders in career rebound average (6.1), career scoring average (14.9) and field goals made in a season (174).
All-Around Leaders - Juniors Katy O'Brien, Ali Smith and Becky Brown have the most playing experience on the squad and combined to make up 48% of the team's offense with 755 points last year.
Long Range - Katy O'Brien nailed 61 three-pointers last year and currently sits second all-time career three-point field goal percentage (.374) behind Sandi Bittler `90 (.471). O'Brien also averaged 9.1 points, dished out 86 assists and collected 55 steals for the Tigers last season.
Crashing The Boards - The Tigers placed third in rebounding offense in the Ivy League last year with 38.0 rebounds per game. Both Becky Brown and Katy Digovich ranked in the Top-10 in the league in rebounds. Three Tigers (Brown, Digovich and Casey Lockwood) all averaged 6.0 or more rebounds a game.
Defensive Edge- Princeton finished second in the league last season in scoring defense after only allowing 64.0 points a contest.
From Coast To Coast - Five of the members of the 204-05 squad are from California, one is from Hawaii and the other five range from the Midwest to the East Coast.
