Princeton, N.J.--Although Princeton outscored Lehigh 34-29 in the second half it wasn't enough as the Tigers dropped a 64-51 decision, Tuesday night in Stabler Arena. The Tigers fall to a 1-1 record and the Mountain Hawks improve to 2-1 on the season. The second half opened with promise for the Tigers. Sophomore Katy Digovich got hot in the second half as she scored five unanswered points in the opening minute. Baskets from junior Becky Brown and freshman Meagan Cowher, including an and-one basket, closed the gap as the Tigers trailed 49-34.
Brown made two lay-ups and grabbed two rebounds before Elyse Umeda made a three-pointer in a last ditch effort to catch up. Three Tigers finished the game with double-digit scoring, Digovich had a team-high 15, Brown had 14 and Cowher added 10.
The game opened as Princeton scored the first basket of the night and took it's only lead of the game with a 2-0 advantage. The Mountain Hawks then built a 11-4 lead over the Tigers after Ellis rattled off two three-pointers. A lay-up from Brown and an and-one play by freshman Cowher led Princeton back into the game with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 11-9 at the 14:28 mark. After a four-minute break without a basket, Digovich made a 10 foot jumper. With the score at 15-12 in the favor of Lehigh, the Mountain Hawks went on a 17-2 run. An awkward shot by Kaela Pearce at the buzzer left Lehigh up 35-17 at the half. The Tigers were out rebounded 18-11 in the first half and 35-27 in the game.
Princeton continues its five-game road schedule as the Tigers visit Winston-Salem, N.C. on Friday when they meet Wake Forest before playing Georgia Tech on Sunday.
