Women's Basketball Dropped A Close Game To Georgia Tech

Atlanta, Ga. -- Free throws were the story of a close, nail-biting game, as Princeton fell 60-50 to Georgia Tech, Sunday at the Alexander Memorial Coliseum. The Tigers fall to 1-3, while Georgia Tech improves to 3-0. The second half opened with three quick points scored by the Yellow Jackets. Princeton then capped off a 9-2 run with two three-pointers by sophomore Katy Digovich to give the Tigers a 33-28 advantage. Georgia Tech's Stephanie Higgs got hot from outside the arc and gave the Yellow Jackets their first lead of the game, 44-41 at the 9:16 mark. Junior Becky Brown tied the game at 44 on the next possession with an off-balanced jump-hook at the top of the key as the shot clock wind down.
However, with Princeton in foul trouble again, Georgia Tech went back to the foul line and closed out the game after Higgs converted on four tries. Sophomore Shelly Slemp made her first start of the season against Georgia Tech and scored the first basket of the game for Princeton off a six-foot jumper that tied the game, 2-2. The Tigers then jumped to an early 11-4 lead on the Yellow Jackets. Princeton rallied a 9-2 run that was ended as Jill Ingram scored the second basket of the night for Georgia Tech. Junior Katy O'Brien entered the contest with 8:20 left in the first half an immediately scored with a three-pointer from the right corner netting the score at 19-8 and ended a three and a half minute scoring drought by Princeton. The Tigers got in foul trouble early entering the 15th minute of the first half. Georgia Tech capitalized on their opportunities from the charity stripe making six of 12 free throws and closed the gap to 27-23 at the end of the first half. Digovich was the only Tiger in double figures with 13 points while both Brown and Cowher had nine. Princeton visits Wagner on Dec. 1, tip-off is at 7.
