WEST POINT, N.Y. - Darius Craton defeated Nathan Thompson, the No. 31 player in the country, at No. 1 singles, and Princeton took the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2, but Clemson held off the Tigers 5-2 in a men's tennis match played at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center at Army Sunday afternoon.
Princeton opened the match by taking the doubles point in dramatic fashion. Tim Kofol and Sratha Saengsuwarn upset the 17th-ranked Clemson duo of Thompson and Jarmaine Jenkins at No. 2, 8-6, and Princeton's Tigers clinched the point when Craton and Dan Friedman won by the same score at No. 1.
Craton would then upset Thompson in the singles, winning in straight sets 7-5 and 6-2, and Princeton would take two of the other five matches into a third set, but Clemson would hold on in each match to clinch the victory. Saengsuwarn won the first set 6-3 over John Boetsch at No. 5 before Boetsch came back to take the next two sets, while Friedman tied his match with Goran Sterijovski after two sets before falling 6-1 in the third. Clemson moved to 9-2 on the season, while Princeton fell to 1-4. Clemson was ranked No. 27 nationally heading into the match.
